Life happens — and sometimes you can’t finish a puzzle in one sitting. Storing an in‑progress puzzle safely ensures you don’t lose pieces or ruin your work.
Use a Puzzle Mat
Puzzle mats are the easiest way to store a puzzle mid‑build. Roll it up, secure it with straps, and unroll it later without disturbing your progress.
Try a Puzzle Board
Puzzle boards offer a firm, portable surface with drawers for sorting. They’re ideal if you want to move your puzzle between rooms or store it under a bed or couch.
DIY Options
If you don’t have a mat or board, you can use:
- Large sheets of foam board
- Poster board
- Cardboard sheets
- A clean tablecloth you can fold gently over the puzzle
Just make sure the surface is flat and clean.
Keep Pieces Contained
Use small containers, zip bags, or trays to keep sorted pieces together. Labeling piles (sky, edges, buildings, etc.) helps you pick up right where you left off.
Protect From Pets and Kids
If you share your home with curious paws or little hands, store your puzzle on a high shelf, inside a closet, or under a bed when not in use.
